Spring is the name of a large area of northern Harris County and a smaller area of southern Montgomery County. But, the original town of Spring, now known as Old Town Spring, is located at the intersection of Spring-Cypress and Hardy roads. Old Town Spring is today a tourist attraction with beautiful old architecture, shopping, retail, and popular annual events.

Spring Creek Greenway passes through Spring, with hiking, biking and horseback riding trails. Atkinson farm, at the outskirts of town, grows more than 80 kinds of vegetables and fruits. Jurassic Quest is a traveling dinosaur exhibit with headquarters in Spring, Texas. This interactive experience takes visitors from the Middle Triassic to the Late Cretaceous Era by showing 80 museum-quality life-size models and animatronic dinosaurs, created with the help of country’s leading paleontologists and each is replicated in the finest detail, from scales to feathers, claws and teeth. Besides the life-like Dinosaur Exhibits, there are many activities for dinosaur fans – they can can dig up fossils like a real paleontologist, ride on the back of a huge 24-foot T. Rex, or the spiky Carnotauru. There are dinosaur-themed rides such as inflatable mazes, large slides, and the multi-track Dino Bungee Pull. There is also a Dinosaur Petting Zoo and the fossil area in the Dinosaur Museum with real dinosaur fossils more than 60 million years old. Jurassic Quest travels all over the country and normally visits more than 80 cities per year.

Spring Creek Greenway is a 10-foot wide paved hike, bike and horseback riding trail in Spring, Harris County, stretching over 40 miles of green space through the forest on the south side of Spring Creek. The greenway offers great opportunity for cycling, hiking, jogging and wildlife viewing, through the parts of the Piney Woods or along natural sloughs and sand beaches by the creek. Lush greenery makes it is difficult to believe that you are actually in the city. The greenway links six Harris County parks and has several trailheads. While Spring Creek is not actually a river, in some places is as wide as San Jacinto River and exploring it from a canoe or kayak offers spectacular views of magnolias, river birches, red bay trees and black willows, with hundreds of species of birds and diverse wildlife.

Atkinson Farm is a 4th generation working vegetable farm near Spring, Texas. The farm grows about 60 varieties of vegetables and fruits on about 100 fertile acres and sells them in local farmers’ markets and larger grocery stores. They also supply local restaurants. Atkinson also sells their produce in their own store attached to the farm, opened in 2000. During the strawberry season, picking up strawberries is a popular activity among locals, who often turn it into a family picnic. The Black Sheep Bistro is small, bright and cozy restaurant located in a converted home in Spring, Texas. Small individual rooms with white table cloths and original paintings on the walls create perfect atmosphere for romantic dinners or small celebrations. The menu has an interesting combination of elevated New American fare and international dishes, combining classic like Pan Roasted Filet Mignon with Escargot Stuffed Mushrooms and Hong Kong Ribs. The restaurant has small but well-chosen wine list and a range of craft beer. The Black Sheep has a covered outdoor space in the garden for larger parties or for dining al fresco during the summer. Once a month they offer Wine Dinners and every Thursday is Wine Tasting Night.

Puffabellys is a popular local gathering spot opened in 1995 in a reconstructed old railroad depot, designed to look like the one that used to be in Old Town Spring but was lost in a fire. Much of the material in the new building was recycled in order to create the same character and ambiance that the old one had. Puffabelly’s is known for great hand-pattied burgers, friendly relaxed atmosphere and live music. The menu includes a large range of everyone’s favorites such as fried chicken, grilled pork chops, chilly cheese fries, Texas Toothpicks, catfish baskets and all kinds of sandwiches and salads.
