HOW TO STORE YOUR HOLIDAY DECORATIONS

The holidays are almost over. Now we have to properly pack all those decorations up and figure out the best place to store them until the next holiday season rolls around. Here's a few tips on how to properly pack and store your decorations.

WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO STORE MY DECORATIONS?

You may have an attic, basement or even a storage shed in your backyard to store those holiday decorations in. If you don’t than renting a storage unit can be really helpful for storing your holiday decorations. If you have a lot of electronics or decorations that are older and maybe sentimental you might consider a climate-controlled unit. Otherwise, a standard unit will probably suit your purpose.

WHAT SIZE UNIT SHOULD I GET?

In most cases a smaller storage unit, such as a 5x5 or 5x10, should be plenty of room to store almost anyone's holiday decorations. A 5x5 is about the size of a walk-in closet, so it has plenty of space for inside and outside decorations, your holiday lights, and that artificial Christmas tree. If you have larger outside decorations than the 5x10 is probably the right size for you.

HOW TO ORGANIZE YOUR STORAGE UNIT

Before storing your holiday decorations figure out what you have and how you would like to organize them in your self-storage unit. You may want to consider putting some shelving up in your unit to help keep things organized. If your storage unit is smaller, like the 5×5 consider using plastic bins instead of boxes. This makes for better stacking.

HOW TO PACK YOUR HOLIDAY DECORATIONS FOR STORAGE

1. Fragile ornaments should be wrapped in bubble wrap or packing paper. Then gently placed in your container of choice. You may even consider a dish pack box with dividers. Make sure to label the box fragile.

2.Put the non-fragile ornaments together in a zip-top bags. Place them in your container and then fill any empty space with crumpled paper or bubble wrap to avoid them being tossed around in the box.

3.Try wrapping your Christmas lights and garland around a piece of cardboard or maybe even use your old wrapping paper tubes to avoid them getting tangled.

4.Put your tree back in its original box if you have it. If you don't still have the box you may want to purchase one large enough to store it or consider a Christmas Tree bag. This will protect it from any dust that might settle in the unit.
